Lily 01

After scribbling out several pages of my sketch book I took a break from trying to design 'Lily'. Then after finishing a fair few of my boards I had more of an idea of how I wanted her to look and tried again.

First attempt didn't pan out. I used a couple of relatives for a vague reference, but in the intial sketch she looked too old and not particularly endearing.

So I decided to look for some young characters I thought of as being cute and had a look at 'Lilo & Stitch'. Lily then became much smaller and more childlike in my opinion. Originally I was going to avoid pigtails because I thought it was a little cliche, but I decided to stick with them after all.

And these are just some colour studies to think about what colour works for her. I haven't decided yet.

That's all for now.

Like to see more details of what is going on in your piece? Can you post your animatic? How have these character designs informed the mise-en-scène of your narrative? What kind of backgrounds have you developed? Can I see a character against a background? What stage are you at right now?

the characters look great, although I can't decide on a fave colour scheme. The simple lines that make up the character make the designs more accessible to younger audiences.
