Animatic version 3

I figured I'd skip two and go straight to version 3 which was my hand in Pilot

Want to extend the last few shots slightly so it reads better, but other than that I just want to see if it works as well once I have all the backgrounds painted.

I'm a bit confused by the animatic, who is your audience? If it's for pre-school you have a gun target aimed at the female character and if the piece is for an older audience it all seems a little affected at times. I love the drawings you have done, it reminds me of Jane Hissey's 'Old Bear' books but I don't see anything unique, I know the dog is struggling to deal with the girls enforced gender role-playing but I thought we were going to see that he actually enjoyed dressing in drag before the end of the film (after all, Bugs Bunny does), was hoping to see dog swishing in front of the mirror whilst girl slept, it all feels a little bit safe and saccharine at the end!

It was never really meant to be about gender roles. The Dog was never even supposed to have a specific gender. His dislike of the dress is not based on gender, but simply in his desire to play space rocket instead.
Instead it's more of a sibling rivalry between the two, learning to compromise. The Dog is struggling more with the fact that he has to take turns in playing their prefered games.
I can understand the confusion for a target audience, but it's definately not designed for pre-school. I would suggest it's more for at least 6-10 year bracket, who would potentially distinguish between a sci-fi gun and a contemporary weapon. Also the Dog targets at the girl but he in no way acts out firing at her. The particular shot is the final transion from his sci-fi fantasy to the reality of the bedroom. From there on, having a laser gun does enpower him, nor make him a hero. His ability to comfort the girl is through disgarding the toy gun.
And yes, the ending is very saccharine. If fact the very intial story was not going to be so sweet, but I needed to show the ability to compromise was maintained, but that the Dog was completely imancipated. Perhaps it is not clear, but I was trying to use the page of doodles to show that the girl actually commends the space pilot character that Dog plays, and almost looks up to him, hence why it is so tragic when he rejects her dress.
I would have liked to have a more mischievious ending, but I found it difficult to find something that kept in with the stroy, that didn't disregard to lesson Dog's character had learnt.

Sorry, I hate typos:

...but that the Dog was *not* completely imancipated...

A bit late I know but story ok The film is supposed to be sweet and charming I was disappointed with the end I wanted it to say something aboutthe dog being an astronaut which strikes a chord with the girl. What about a mobile with a message on it so the planets and space connect with the girls imagination.
